The Riverside group of businesses had its genesis in 1962 with tea plantations that grow premium quality tea leaves and a tea factory that refines the leaves into a superior blend of tea. The plantations thus produce prime quality tea that caters to the palette of both local and international tea lovers.
The tea is sold under the brand name ‘Riverside tea’, a very well appreciated brand in the Nilgiris. Made using only the most tender leaves, the tea is renowned for its crisp and well-developed flavor, remarkable taste, and a soothing astringency.
Our tea manufacturing goes through a modernized TQM (total quality management) process starting from the field level up to the packaging process.
Recently the brand was awarded the coveted Golden Leaf Award – 2005 and 2007 (judged by an international jury of renowned tea tasters) for best CTC dust in its category.
In 1978, the group diversified its line of business by venturing into commercial complexes and related buildings. The “Selma Theatre” complex in the heart of Kotagiri is one prime example. The theatre has now been converted into the Selma Marriage Hall with the emphasis on quality construction, design and utility still of paramount importance.
Also, in 1979, the “Selma Engineering Works” came into being. Its main emphasis is in manufacturing formwork accessories for heavy-duty machineries and related jobbing work for machineries used in tea manufacturing. Importantly, it also gives us control of metalworking, a key ingredient in any construction project.
Several group members are also the trustees of - Riverside Public School - established in the year 2001. The school is now a 700 children strong institute offering ICSC education from Kindergarten (KG) to standard 10 (with standards 11 and 12 opening shortly).
Hiring only the best of faculty and providing state of the art infrastructure meticulously adopt the school’s motto “Strive to Excel”. The School aims to develop well-rounded children by adopting a holistic approach while paying individual attention to each child to foster excellence.
