Description:
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a very high Molecular Weight Polymer made of repeating units of D-glucuronic acid and D-N-acetyl-glucosamine. When incorporated into a neutral aqueous solution hydrogen bond formation occurs between water molecules and adjacent carboxyl and N-acetyl groups. This imparts a conformational stiffness to the polymer. The hydrogen bond formation results in the unique water-binding and retention capacity of the polymer. It also follows that the water-binding capacity is directly related to the molecular weight of the molecule. Up to six liters of water may be bound per gram of HA. It can be described as "nature’s moisturizer". HA has been widely used in medicine, health food, and cosmetic and so on.
