Every subject is different. Teaching and learning a subject may require different practices. Access modes and user roles limit the areas that the user can access and prevents unauthorized access to content. Course Management
The Administrator can create a course at any time and configure the type of access to that course. The course by itself or any part of the course can be made accessible to all students who register for
the course. It is even possible to allow access to a selected portion of the course only to a selected student or a group of students.
Group Management
Students who register for a course can be organized into groups. The facilities on SPOT that a student can access are controlled by the group(s) of the course in which the student is a made a member. The course administrator is allowed to create new groups and assign students to the groups. Group management on SPOT makes it possible to provide different levels of access to the course.
Question Bank Management
An instructor can add questions in which he or she would like to test the students and organize them specific to the chapters and subchapters in the course. The instructor can even classify the questions into five different levels of difficulty. SPOT provides a special facility where instructors can download questions to a Microsoft Excel file and edit them offline, at home, in the library or even on the plane and upload them back when they are back at work.
Examinations
SPOT provides a solid testing platform. Instructors can create quizzes or exams and target them to a specific individual, group or the entire class. The student should always have cleared all the previously assigned exams and quizzes to proceed further in the course. The instructor has the ability to override a selected exam or quiz to a selected student or group. Instructors also analyze students’ performance in the subject and they can also generate graphical reports to understand how the students in the class rate in different areas of the course.
Surveys
SPOT also provides a facility to create a special survey group at any time. The survey group can be created online or the user list can be imported to SPOT from a variety of sources like XML feeds, MS-Excel files or text files. If either the e-mail address of the target users or their SPOT Ids are provided in a selected list, SPOT engine automatically sends them a link to access the survey and after a preset time, it generates a summary of the survey.
Student Assistance
SPOT offers suite of student assistance features to help students. Students can communicate with the instructors using either the Query or the Chat modules. In addition to these, students can also search the Frequently Asked Questions and the course content including the material pages and the audio and video files in the course.
Query
Students are allowed to send a preset number of queries to the course instructor. The course instructor answers the queries and the students can view the answers in the answers section of the Queries module. Instructors can post repeated queries from students to the Frequently Asked Questions.
Chat
When there are a ton of questions in a students mind, it is best if he or she could sit down with the instructor and sort them all out. But, geography many not always permit that. To help students have one to one sessions with the instructors, SPOT provides the chat module, a specially designed tool that lets instructors and students interact with each other. The instructor can post his or her list of available times on a given day and the students can reserve the time slot that best suits their schedule.
Search
“I know the teacher talked about this in class, but I forgot to note it down………..”, every one of us would have been in this situation at least once. SPOT provides the random search of all the audio/video files linked with the course and allows students to locate the exact session in which the instructor mentioned or discussed a given topic. Students can search for a topic and directly visit a selected page from the results and play the audio or video to listen to the instructor’s speech on the topic. Speech Capturing:
To improve the verbal communication skills students can record their voice and play it back, students can also listen to the pre-recorded voice files by using ICMSPOT.
